Why we are here?
The scary reality is that 81% of Grade 4 learners are unable to read for understanding! In ANY language.
Globally over 770 million adults still lack basic reading and writing skills, with women disproportionately affected.
Action driven change is a vital necessity for our future.
1 in 6 mainstream learners have additional learning needs. These include visual learners not catered for; second-language learners; and learners who require learner support.
We have made it our mission to impact classrooms across South Africa, by providing educators and learners visual resources that help break the cycle of the literacy crisis.
That's where we step in
We make classroom-ready storybooks by looking at the curriculum and globally relevant educational themes.
Many themes and topics discussed in classrooms are abstract and difficult to understand as a 6-9 year old. Children are often taught in isolated lessons, therefore there is no lasting meaning or relevance to the lesson.
Our intention is to merge learning, language and literacy to meet in one place: the classroom.
Learners gain innumerable benefits through storybooks. Why not harness the age-old power of a tale and use it to help teach thematic work?

7 TALES to SAVE THE WORLD - A set of children's stories "that are aligned with the Life Skills curriculum and are in line with play-based learning and child appropriate strategies to boost literacy in the classroom". Boy, South African schools really need this! - and our friend Ashleigh Hearfield has written, designed and published, 7 TALES TO SAVE THE WORLD to help make learning to read and write more fun.
Ashleigh is creative, kind, and mindful of what can help make teaching less stressful. These books are eye catching, thought provoking, beautifully presented and such a fun read. The teacher- led guided steps, in the resource pack, cover the abstract life skills concepts and multiple skills can be taught in one lesson.

The “Seven Tales to Save the World” series is a favourite in my toolkit! The characters are so lovable - warm, funny, and full of personality - that it’s easy to get drawn into their adventures.
The rich variety of vocabulary woven naturally into the stories is a standout for me as a language therapist. It’s a fantastic way to build language without it ever feeling forced. The books also sneak in interesting facts that spark great conversations. The “Did you know?” sections are brilliant - a perfect mix of fun and education and they are perfect for curious kids.
Comprehension questions at the end of the books are thoughtfully designed, offering a range of formats, from literal and inferential to opinion-based and creative responses, supporting critical thinking and discussion.
Beautiful illustrations bring the stories to life and provide such lovely visual support, especially for kids who benefit from that extra context.
This series doesn’t just tell stories. It builds knowledge, sparks imagination, and encourages thoughtful conversation, all while learning curricular content and having fun.
I have worked in the environmental industry for the last 22 years doing educational programs and projects in communities around South Africa and abroad. Seven Tales to Save the World set is such a value add to the industry and to the educational experience of children- it should be in every school. It’s alive and beautifully captures the meaning of environmental action. I have a passion for teaching, and the environment and am thrilled to see this set of books that are not only educational but inspirational. Ashleigh Hearfield’s work in trying to create tides of change have been made possible through these beautiful illustrations and important lessons that these books portray.
